Default LS1 5.7 timing problem?

Hello, I’m new to this forum and I have a huge problem with my LS1 5.7. I have a 1999 LS1 5.7 that I bought used with 64000 miles on it. I put it in my 280z with a painless wiring harness and ECM to match with VATS removes. It starts every time, but when I throttle it the least bit it starts dropping fire from the Coils. The more throttle I give the worse the problem gets. It’s throwing crank position codes. But I’ve changed the sensor twice. This also happened on the original harness and ECM. That’s why I changed to the painless system. I could use some expert advice! Lol thanks

Moving this over here where it's more likely to get some traction. Good luck, OP!

just because it’s throwing crank pos sensor codes doesn’t mean that the sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. But since you replaced it, what brand sensor did you use? AC Delco or autozone off brand?

you stated the engine was a ls1 out of a 99.... fbody or vette?

check your grounds. Both coil pack main plugs have a ground wire. What painless harness are you running? Part number if you have it.

how are you able to tell that the coils are dropping fire?

Im using the Painless wiring Harness 60508 with 0411 ECM no VATS.
I am using the GM #12560228 Crank Sensor and GM #12561211 Cam sensor. When it’s Idling I pull 1 plug wire from coil pack at a time and I have fire. When I start throttling up the fire goes away on 2,4,5,and 7. It’s like the ECM is taking fire away to protect the engine. And it did the same exact thing with the original Harness and ECM. And I also changed the Coil packs all to GM OEM. It’s baffling to me. I’m an old school Mechanic. I’ve also pulled the timing chain cover and made sure the cam and crank were lined up right. ?????

I would try and data log it to see if that tells you anything.

Definitely an odd situation. Since you're already so far into that ignition trigger, hopefully it fixes it. I'll be interested in following this.
