Default PCM interchageability?

Guys,
When replacing PCM's does the transmission matter?
I plan on getting one for my lt4 m6 car and would like to know if a lt1 auto donor car will work?

Should not matter as long as you are going to do a full flash.
I do think year matters. Ie: 94-95 is different than 96-97. But double check this.
The swap to OBD2 may have been an issue. Just recall getting a older PCM for my 97 and shaving issues.

If the new PCM is the P01 (red/blue connectors) or P59 (green/blue), you can reflash it with software that will be happy with a manual transmission.

Believe he is asking about LT1 / LT4 pcms with the 4 connectors.
At least I think he is.

My apologies for not being very clear. I am working on a 96 z24 that has a lt4 engine and would like to get a back up pcm to flash once I do the stroker build. I’d like to keep a stock program for California smog reasons

A stock program will not work with a stroker engine.
All they look at now is if any codes show, plus a visual on the engine to check for any non-exempt stuff like headers or air intakes. If CARB approved, it's good.

Good read, and thank you! Being they plug into the OBD port, they can see if the tune is changed.

Sounds like the latest update of hptuners for the mpv2 also loses some parameters due to the EPA while the old mpv1 pro does not lose any parameters with the latest update. I have no inspections in my state, but I don't want anyone to lose their ability to tune to an extent to ruin the hobby for them regardless of where they live.
