OBDDII Scanner????
I have an old AutoTap from the 2000's and don't do much automotive work anymore. I just tried to log onto the AutoTap website, and it appears the company is no more. What's the current scanner type tool everyone uses? I am not looking for something super high tech, mainly just want to view codes and do some other items like reset back up camera (FORD).
I am not sure how elaborate you are wanting, but i just got the Foxwell NT301obd2 code scanner. it can read ECM & TCM codes along with checking battery voltage and can do "live" engine reading. they say it can check for major emission codes as well. got it thru amazon for a little over $110 or so....
hope this helps, good luck!

With something like reprogramming a backup camera you would need a much more sophisticated computer that just a code scanner. Engine codes are generated by the ECM (engine control module) but body functions are controlled by the BCM (body control module). The OBD II system is a generality common among all makers for the most part but body control functions are individualized by each manufacturer. Dealerships have there huge systems that are probably hundreds of thousands of dollars and can see every aspect of the vehicles systems (centralized software). Independent shops spend tens of thousands on systems that can do similar things as the dealership systems but really don't have the ability to access every single parameter of all manufacturers (distributed software) like the individual dealerships have.
Yes my Innova does display IAC counts but only as a live display with no capability of storage. Keep in mind this unit is over 15 years old. Comparable new CAN OBD2 & OBD1 units will be more sophisticated for sure. This unit was over $350 in 2008 and was one of the best handhelds on the market at the time.
