Idle surge with new fuel system.
Info: stock LS1 short block, 862 heads mildly ported, 11:1 compression, 212/218 114lsa cam, headers and truck intake.
I just went from a return style rail with 30# inj and a 170lph in tank pump to returnless rails, 36# inj, 255 in tank pump and changed the inj data in my tune. Started up and ran fine. Went to go to store for more gas in the new fuel cell and it started surging at idle in gear and would die. Got some gas , started right up but put it in gear and it would surge then die. Finally got it home. Went into the tune, I added some fuel and pulled timing and the idle surge went away for park and in gear. Strange that my bigger injectors would need me to add fuel.
Once I got it to idle ok again, the fan kicked on and the surging came back, as the engine surges, I can hear the loud azz fuel pump surging too. Fan goes off and surge stops. Fuel pump is still loud but not surging. Try to pull fuel in the tune , surging comes back , fuel pump surges everytime engine surges.
Didn't have this issue before. Ran great. Reason for the fuel rail and inj swap was the plastic rails started leaking at the end caps and had a inj go bad.
Thoughts?? Could it be a bad fuel pump? I was kinda hesitant with the brand even though several people I know run them.
