Default PCM and Harness Help

I have a complete 98 LS1/4L60E set up. It came out of a 98 TA and it is going in my 70 RS Z28. I do have some knowledge on this stuff as I have owned and raced LS cars since they were new but haven't really been in the game for a few years now. I remember years ago and experienced what a PIA tuning on a 98 was. I tuned several 99 up cars back in the day and they always seemed to be easier to deal with. I have a few questions I was hoping some of you good folks could help me out with

. I want to use a 99 up PCM and harness.

1. What are my options?
2. Can I use all of my existing 98 sensors with the newer pcm?
3. Would I be better off buying an aftermarket harness or cutting a factory harness down?
4. Would I be better off buying a pcm already loaded? I do still have my HPT so I can still handle tuning. Just not sure what the process is as I have never done anything swaps.

Hello,

What PCM do you have? An "0896" or maybe a "0411"?

1 - We don't know enough about your PCM or your wiring harness to answer the #2 question.

2 - Using a factory harness and modify it is certainly cheaper but only if it wasn't brutalized, savaged and damaged being pulled from the donor vehicle. No wire insulation damaged, connectors in good condition.

3 - Buying a PCM already loaded? Why? Turning off VATS and whatever else such as EGR, EVAP, tire height, rear differential ratio, etc that you wish to kill off or need to change should be easy with your present PCM. If you are running a more or less stock LS1 motor, just stick with this PCM.

I don't have pcm but I do have a 98 harness. The engine / trans is from a 98 TA. I do know I do not want to use a 98 pcm. I have tuned several of these cars over the years and the only ones I ever had problems with were 98 A4 cars. The speed/tire editor suck *****. I just want to make sure I don't buy something that won't work with the stuff I already have.

It’s quite common to switch from the 98 pcm to the 99-01.
You have to re-pin the pcm connectors.
All of the sensors etc are the same.
You should be able to find a guide online somewhere.

The 98 ecu is hard to find, and expensive when you do.

The above mentioned 4896/0411 are plentiful.
