Default TBSS going back to stock help

I recently purchased an 07 Trailblazer SS AWD for my wife to drive daily. It has long tube headers, and no cats. Driving it, it wants to hang on to first gear, it upshifts and downshifts just fine outside of that. It will shift normally out of first if you are very light on the throttle. Being it has no cats, I assume someone has gotten into the pcm, which makes me think they have messed with shift points. I have only made changed to PCMs using PCM Hammer and Tuner Pro. I recently purchased HP tuners to make it easier to diagnose and modify my swapped vehicles. I have zero experience using HP tuners outside of playing around with it looking at live data on my vehicles.

Can any of you folks make any suggestions on where I would want to look at first to see what changes were done to the transmission?

Thanks for any help!

You need to find a stock tune and compare it. That's going to be the easiest way to see what's been changed.

HPTuners has a stock tune repository.

I think its under "my account" when you are logged in to their site.

Sorry for another dumb question, but do they have tunes with simple modifications like just headers? I want to assume being Alpha-N that it would compensate for basic changes in air flow, but I really don’t know.

thanks again!

They use to. Several years back when the EPA started cracking down, they took down all the modified tunes and just left the stock ones. These PCM's aren't Alpha N. They are MAF and MAP based. Fords use Alpha N when the MAF fails. Oother than aftermarket ECMs, I'm not sure anyone others than use it.

Most motorcycles I've seen are still sticking to Alpha N. Then again, everything about motorcycle tuning seems to be about 20 years or more behind cars. My S&S engine with a single throttle body even has a MAP sensor and baro correction, but for some inexplicable reason is not SD.

I've only tuned a couple Alpha N cars. Didn't much care for it.

I assumed having a MAF made it Alpha N. I only assume that because I started my fuel injection life using megasquirt and I always thought that having a MAF made it Alpha N. I’ve only done SD setups.

Got to the repository and found some stock tunes. I’m currently googling and watching videos on the subject, but I have another dumb question. Am I able to pull my vehicles stock tune without buying credits? Just to have to compare to the stock ones I have gotten.

Thanks for the help!

Well I have answered my own question, I’ll have to get the credits to pull my tune to compare.

I downloaded 2 “stock” TBSS tunes to compare, and I have noticed a difference in the torque management. The only concern or question I have is if there would be a difference between RWD and AWD trans settings. It didn’t state that. I’ll just download them all and compare I guess.

Unless something has changed, you should be able to read the tune out of your vehicle and save it.

It only makes you buy credits when you try and write it.

I would also make sure you are comparing the some operating systems(OS). and obviously engine

I don't know for certain, but I would venture to guess the tunes would be different between a RWD and AWD tune.

I’m finding a lot of changes between a stock awd tune from the repository and my tune in the transmission. I have never made changes to anything automatic trans related on a pcm. Would I be better off posting my tune and a stock tune on hp tuners for someone to maybe help guide me to make some changes?

I am attaching the tune. Something I noticed after posting last, the scales on the tables arent exactly the same between mine and the 06 tune.

Side note, I pulled the tune this morning, the wife just took it out and said the check engine light is on and its shifting normal. Ill report back once I can plug into it.

Thank you for the help!

Ok. I must have done something wrong. I just plugged it in and read the tune, I didn’t select anything different. The first time I tried it timed out, so I shut everything down and tried it again. I did notice I couldn’t see any of the engine stuff on the tune. I did get a CEL, P0606 after trying to pull the tune.

I will plug back in and try again.

How do you put a tune back to stock? It’s not as simple as a click of the mouse is it?

No, @minytrker has provided you with the stock tune. Download it your laptop that has HP Tuners, and use your credits (4?) to write it to the ECM and TCM.
