Default P0601 Code

Hey everyone I need any help I can get. I recently installed an LSA SC to my 98 trans am. Before I fired it up I had a tuner send me a baseline tune to get started. I followed his directions to a T uploading the tune via HPTuners. When I went to start it my injectors were not pulsing so I checked all the usual stuff then finally hooked up my code reader and found P0601 which I have never seen before. Is this why my car wont start? Is my computer shot? ANY help would be appreciated so thanks in advance

Yeah, I was waiting for one of the experts here to chime in first, but if it now won't even allow writing a new tune, then it is bricked. You could first try writing a complete OS and then your tune.
Perhaps someone know how/where to fix it, but I see them now on ebay for $69 programmed to your VIN. Search ebay for "'98 Camaro PCM".
Alternatively you might consider switching to the better "411" PCM, but that does requires re-pinning your harness; there are several detailed threads on that here.

I don't know if there is any truth to it, but I've read that you should always write entire when dealing with a 98pcm.

Ya I first did write calibration instead of write entire. I guess that’s where I messed the computer up

Back when I had a '98 I probably did a hundred Write Calibration only; I honestly wondered if there was a limit to how many times you could write. Never had a problem and another member here is now using it. Guess it was a lucky blessed PCM.

Ya idk like I said I’m no mechanic and certainly no tech guy but p0601 plus no injector pulse and funky fuel pressure readings lead me to believe it’s junk. Idk is there anyway to fix it or I just need a new one?

Time for a new PCM, that code means it's dead. Somebody might be able to revive it on the bench but I highly doubt it as it sounds like the boot loader is corrupt. The 98 PCMs are dropping like flys lately, you might as well snag a 99-02 computer and re-pin it now.

Nope, normally you can do a write calibration only and only have to do a write entire when applying a custom OS.

Ok thanks I appreciate the reply. I had my tuner order me another one. Honeslty after he throws the baselline tune on in and sends it back to me I am afraid to even dial it in any further. Dumb mistake on my part

Can you elaborate on your "funky fuel pressure readings" a little, please? What does that mean?

Rick

Hey Rick appreciate the reply. So my fuel pressure would be low and it would take like 3 or 4 key turns to get my pressure to 60. From what I understand when I key on the pump should prime for 3 seconds but all I would hear is it power on for like a second. I think I read that P0601effects that as well. Again i dont know but everything is brand new fuel wise...relays, filter, pump, and aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. I had zero fuel pressure issues before the SC install but not knowing the pcm was toast I replaced anything I could think of fuel wise, injector wise (was getting no injector pulse), fuel rail, fuel lines, etc. Wish looked for codes before I replaced everything
