E38 compatible with 6l80?? (originally had 4l65)
Hey team, I'd really appreciate some insight on whether this E38 PCM I have will be capable of controlling a 6l80 I have purchased when apparently it was originally paired up with a 4l65e not this 6l80.
The E38 service no is 12603892
I think the part number is (large numbers across the top) 12607217.
The TCM on the 6l80 apparently is not original to that transmission but it's numbers are 24256124
If they are compatible I'll splash out and buy the hp tuners kit and try reflash them but I'm completely green to this GM stuff... I'm hoping that it's possible to flash in a tune that will work as it will cost me about $1000 to get HP tuners vs $2800 for the Haltech rebel+ trans controller another $2000.
Any insight would be much appreciated thanks

I'm not familiar with that service number. I sell hundreds of E38 ECMs each year, and that particular number isn’t on my list. Below are the service numbers I typically work with. going off memory, all of these—except for 12597121—are compatible with a 6L80 transmission:
- 12597121
- 12612384
- 12625455
- 12633238
You really need to pose this question on the Hptuners gen4 forum. If it was a gen 3 computer, you could swap whatever OS you need with HPT. On gen4 computers, HPT can't write a full OS change, so this may affect what direction you end up going in to make this work.
Thanks guys,
Ok, I'm guessing because I'm in NZ these are Australian products so that might explain the odd numbers for you Americans? Dunno.
Cheers AK I shall copy paste over to that forum. Thanks for the pointers

And don't be surprised if someone gives you **** about not posting a tune and log file before they realize that you don't yet have Hptuners. It is almost a knee jerk response over there.
