Default Used Hypertech Programmer

I heard somewhere that a programmer marries itself to the car therefore it is not advisable to buy a used unit. Is that true?

unless you're getting it uber cheap it's not advisable to guy one period

But... if you buy one used, you have to make sure it's for your year car... and the person has COMPLETELY restored their car to stop (removed everything the hypertech put in)

I've also heard o people buying a Used HPP3, but even though it was cleared it wouldn't work because the PCM Version your car is running may be newer than the HPP3 was designed to work on (more common on older years)

no

you just need to make sure you buy the used one that specifically made for your car's year.

also, if the seller wants to purposefully rip you off and send you his unit without changing his car back to stock...therefore keeping the tune of the HPP3 loaded....so you can't use it.....well this is stupid, because then he would be stuck with whatever program he had it last.....so if he changes gears, tire size, thermostat, etc....he'd be stuck with that tune (and would need the HPP3 unit that he sold to you back, to change it...or his speedo is screwed, fan setting wrong, etc....and the A4 shifts funny with wrong size tires and gears plugged in)

dunno if LS1-Edit or HP Tuners could correct it...but if he's upgrading to either of these programs, then they do everything HPP3 does already plus more...so no reason to rip you off.

if he really wnts to rip you off, it's esy to just take your PayPal payment and send you a brick.
