In my 00 silverado the security light will sometimes come on in the message center when I'm just driving down the road. It stays on untill I turn the truck off, what could this be? It did it a few times here and there a few months ago but then it stopped. This last week it started doing it again, any ideas?

 

something with the vats is messed up i would guess, maybe a dirty key, a bad ignition cylander, or somthing to that nature, you could delete it from the programming, ill do it for you if you are interested. jes

 

The trucks are different than the F-bodies. They have a special hall-effect switch lock cylinder that the VATS system looks for. They do go bad also. Need to pull codes out of it & see what it is throwing out code wise. Alot more info needed, not easily diagnoised without the scanner, & tech info.

 

Next time it comes on I'll have it scanned at Auto Zone (if that'll even work) and see what if any codes come up.

 

Let me know what comes of this cause the security light on my 2001 GMC just started doing the same thing again. Haven't had the problem for a few months and couldn't figure out what it might be, considering my truck doesn't even have keyless entry or a security system on it.

 

just turn off the vats b4 your azz is stuck somewhere
like staging hahahahha
