Default cam tuning...

Comp Cams 230/234 591/598 on a 114lsa
Felber Racing Ported 67cc 2.02/1.57 heads

I am just trying to figure out. Car seems to have no power down below 3krpm and pulls harder as rpms increase. I lost by a fender 3 times to a built honda civic running 18lbs of boost.

I tuned out my ltft's but haven't touched my a/f I am goign to dyno soon. Other than getting my a/f right is there anything else I can tune that will give me power? Or do I just get my a/f right and up timing 'til it knocks.

I was told to just keep adding timing 'till you get knock and then back it off.

You are running a fairly decent duration there. Is it a stock block? If so, you wont get much power below 3000RPM. Price you pay for the gains up top. Nothing a 3000 stally won't fix though.

It all depends on the heads. If it is good you should be 410-440hp with the converter locked.

when did the honda start keeping up? maybe you are shifting to late? sometimes, the most power wont be at the most timing also. Just becuase you may be able to hit 30 degrees of timing, doesnt mean 26 wouldnt make the most power. You need the most fuel and timing at max torque, it will follow your dyno curve when done correctly. jes

so you think the a/f ratio will make a big diff. in power? The honda kept up the whole time. We were neck in neck. He says he was spinning in 2nd & 3rd gear. We raced 2 or 3 times. My friend says he runs up to 24lbs of boost. He says he was only running 16lbs of boost. Strong running car none the less, I just wnat more power.

wait: Can I send you a bin file? Look it over? I can't wait to dyno and see what kind of #'s I'm really putting down. Haven't fine tuned my a/f yet, but I think I pretty much have everything else squared away. This was a fully built honda. Pretty fast.

wait: What good are those tables going to do? I have my timing about as high as it will go before I start seeing KR. I just have to adjust a/f now. I wouldn't mind you overlooking my logs/bin files to see what is up make sure everything is running right, cuz I'm NO pro tuner.

I was going to show you something. Looking at the two tables, what one looks like it would produce more power on your motor? The first one does because it has higher timing values, But, when you go to the dyno and try that first one, then try the second one, the second one will be 14 horsepower more. jes

You can't just tune timing without going over the A/F.Alway's try to keep A/F at 12.5-13-1 while tuning in timing. You can vaguely do it with 02 voltage but it can get you close.Either that or go buy a wideband 02.If your going to the dyno, make sure you rent it for 1-2 hours so you can work the tuning to get the best HP.Then take out 1-2 degree's of timing and richen it to 12.5-1 A/F for the street.Check out your HPtuner board and find out how to lock your converter on the dyno so you can tune it in right

would you guys spend $120 on a dyno or $320 on wideband? I figure wideband I can play around and PERFECT things, then pay $30 for 1 or 2 dyno pulls later. What do you guys think?

Mike,

RWTD got me some more power by over-driving my stock injectors. He scaled them down to like 25.5. Or maybe just trying increasing your Power Enrichemnt table to see if that helps. That only adds fuel @ WOT, so it won't affect the idle / normal driving.

I also picked up a couple hp by getting rid of the timing dip at the 4k range. Flatten it out to the max timing you run & see if that does anything. I would say about 27-28* would work for that cam.

I hate those pesky turbo cars. Nasty power when they run that much boost....cheaters!

Good luck
Mark
