Default VATS is killing me! Please, I need help!

Hi,

I hope I posted this in the right section.

My car has a problem with the VATS. I have to relearn the passkey all the time. Because of this problem, and before I had my own HP Tuners stuff, I had my tuner turn the VATS off. The car will still randomly not start, and I still need to do passkey relearns all the time. Also, even after I relearn it, the security light stays on. I thought turning the VATS off would fix this problem. It didn't.

I also thought that if the VATS is turned off that it would not matter if I have a problem with the key or cylinder. Is that true? Or should I try a new key and cylinder?

Does anybody have an idea of what could be causing this, and how to fix it?

My tuner told me to try turning The VATS back on and see if it works. I will try that, but he did not know what setting to put it back onto. Serial, or PWM. If anybody could tell me that it would help also!

ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

Rick

If you have another key try that. I had the same problem on a 2001 chev truck and switched keys and it was good to go.

2xLS1, Thanks!

smokin5.7, Thanks also! I did go ahead and order a new key and ignition cylinder on Friday. I hope it works!

Just ground pin 85 on the relay the vats will think the key is always in the ignition. If you still have problems the module is bad.

Welcome to our community Rick.

If you continue to have problems, also try emailing keith@hptuners.com I'm sure he will get back to you quickly.

Hey John,

Thanks! I posted this on HP Tuners site also, and Ken replied. He made me pay more attention to the codes, and I am going to guess that my key or ignition switch is bad. The only code that was current was one that said the passkey was out of range. I got a new key and cylinder this morning and I am going to put them in this afternoon. I really hope it makes it start working ALL the time again.

Thanks for your help!

Rick
