Default Autometer 5" tach Help please

Didnt know what topic to put this under so i just posted it in here. Recently had a autometer 5" tach put in and is it normal for the dash tach to be faster then the autometer? The dash tach at times is like 400rpms faster....i thought it was supposed to be the other way around? i thought the dash tach was to slow...can somone shed some light on this please
