Tuning from in-dash PC "On-The-Fly"
I'll be mounting a touch screen PC in my dash for multi-media and wireless internet purposes. I was wondering If I could leave the OBDII permanently connected to the ECU and what on-the-fly tuning and/or logging capabilities this might give me. In other words, If you had an in-dash PC, what would you want it to do in regards to ECU duties, and what consideration might there be as far as EFIlive v. HPT in this application? BTW, emissions are not a concern
Thanks
Thanks

A company in australia put together a pcm that has an ethernet port, allowing on the fly tuning. However, the idea was to do the on the fly tuning, save the program, then load it onto a regular pcm. Right now, there isn't any program to allow you to change programming with the engine running with the factory pcm.

At the very least you could hook up the screen and a small computer that runs scanning/tuning software. You could definitely log data realtime. You would of course have to stop the engine to program the PCM...

I have an all-in-one touch screen/PC made by Axiom. It'll be running XP. I might even run my airbag system from mine. It's just as matter of finding/writing the software for it. I have pretty good connections in this area, so I think it's doable. What functions do you plan to use yours for? BTW, nice avatar!

EFILive comes with a programmer's API to allow anyone who can write Windows software to interface with EFILive's OBDII Scan Tool.
Basically, you just make a few function calls to a dll (obdiiv7.dll) and all the OBDII data is available to your own application.
EFILive was designed that way exactly for the integration of devices that you are planning.
Alternatively just use the full EFILive Scan Tool. EFILive has a very customizable built in dashboard that (in the next release) can be almost maximised to the full PC screen.

The main purpose for me doing it is so I dont have to carry the laptop around all the time and sit it in the seat and worry about plugging it into the inverter when the batter goes out ect..
Also it will be a lot easier to look down at the screen to see what going on instead of looking into the seat like I usually do. Its also a lot safer.
I have an older laptop that I plan on using and putting it somewhere out of the way. Probably under the seat would be the best place.. I have seen the smaller pc's for cars online but they arent as slim as the laptop. Im just going to remove the part that turns it off when you close the lid.
I also plan to use it for dvd's, wireless internet, navigation, and basic functions.
I originally wanted to buy the avicn1 and get it all connected w/ that but it doesnt look possible. Im still trying to figure out how to mount it tho.

I was over at a friends house and he just sold his honda and bought a cobra so he was removing the turbo and putting it back to stock. He was tuning using aem software and ecu. Everything was realtime and it was awesome. I couldnt believe that it just flashed it in as he made changes
Why cant they make this for our cars? It wasnt much more expensive than hptuners and it looked a lot cleaner. Did a lot more stuff as well.
