If I keep subtracting timing, and still get KR - then it must be false?

Excellent point

guys, thanks for the input, and now that i think of it, I had my TB off last week and felt the inside of my intake that is only 2-3 months old, and there was no "wet oil" for my finger to feel, so i probably dont have that much oil passing through with my new ls6 pcv conversion that i did 2-3 months ago.

BUT, as far as carbon buildup, thats another story, i have no idea there. the car has 83kmiles, has had KR since i bought autotap, back around 30-40kmiles or so dont know about the history before then. I'll look into the top engine cleaner, hopefully its effective. I've never had the heads off, so i have no idea of what my pistons/ valves look like. also, my car used to consume about 1 quart per 3-4000kmiles before the cam/intake/ls6 pcv mods of 2-3 months ago.

again, thanks for the input (but it seems like i'll never finish tuning )

If you used to consume oil, you have carbon build up.

Seafoam is great ****. If you have bitchy/picky/nosey neighbors, I would suggest you do it early on a saturday morning, or really late at night. It'll smoke up the whole block for about 15 minutes or so.

you can get seafoam at autozone and just about every other parts store. directions are on the can.

You can see my catch can in the pics in this thread

If you do a search for catch cans, in the external engine section, you will find all the info you need to make your own.

thanks, pm sent with email (ws6 firebirdta00), your bellows looks sweet (ta quickness)

will search........just want to make sure i get all i need, to make the can itself, first and do it right the first time.

Question, the intake from the pvc should be at the bottom and the return line, to intake, should be at the top...right?

I too 'tuned' the sensors in a similar manner. Set all cylinders global gain to 4, then started 'adding' back. I'm now at 1.5 and still no KR. I also changed the decay and attack rates as well. Works like a champ. Both the Holden LS1 manual and Probst's Corvette EFI book have nice writeups on the knock sensors.

98 cars are known to have computer's that throw out false KR.I've seen alot of them that will even KR at idle.Simple solution is to just delete the knock sensors when you know your tune is good.I've been running without knock sensors for over a year in my blown Vette/stock motor

thanks again guys,

i suppose the best option right now would be to not even seafoam it (bought taht stuff today), and just pull the heads off and put new lifters on, and that way i can take a look at the pistons and clean them up while the heads are off, that is probably a better clean than seafoam can do??? or is it?

anyways, i could seafoam it tomarrow, but then if i pull my heads, i wouldnt have the whole story infront of me, so i might as well just pull the heads. I'm am not looking forward to pulling heads off, not one bit. oh the nightmares i'll have tonight (headers, coolant, new gaskets, spark plugs, pulling intake and valvecovers again.....AAHHHHH!!!)

and the worst part is i dont even have a garage

You can always upgrade the knock sensors and KS harness to the 99+ version. Very late 98 models came with them.

With the 99+ sensors I don't pick up any KR if the afr is correct, even at 13 to 1 @ wot

I do have hte newer knock sensors, the 6603's i think is the last part of the part number. ended up it was the same sensor that i took out, so my car had the newer ones from the start, i didnt even have to change my wire harness.

made little to no difference on my car (if it made it better, then the cam install at the same time may have made it worse to equal out to the same problem - I still have KR)

Actually, I'd say if you are pulling the heads off anyway then remove any carbon with solvent and scrubbing. It's maybe easier, but definitely much cleaner and less neighbor-angering.

I still think the seafoam is a good idea so you can get to all those hard to reach places. Lord only know's I spent the better part of 2 days removing all the carbon build up on my motor when I had it out.
