Default Reset codes?

If my car sets a code, say a bad 02 sensor, and I replace the 02 sensor, will that code still be pulled up even of the problem is fixed? Do I have to have the code deleted or will fixing the problem clear the code? Thanks

Luke

if you think you fixed the problem, you should clear the code.. most scan tools can do that.

Okay, so if the problem is fixed 100%, and I take it to like Autozone and have the codes pulled, that code will still come up even though problem has been fixed?

Some codes go away, some do not. Always clear them after you have one though. Some stay dormant. Yes, AutoZone will clear them for you. No charge.

Some codes are set after a "problem" occurs for say, 3 cycles. (not always clear to me what a "cycle" is).For example, a heater code on an O2 sensor. After X number of cycles where the condition doesn't occur, the code becomes dormant, that is to say the MIL light will go off.
