Cheapest way to get started? Here's my situation: I have a '98 Z28 and just did the LS6 intake upgrade (no egr provision so I removed it) and I need to delete the SES code soon because my inspection is due in October. I'm also going to add headers and a cam in the very near future so I'll need a tune after those parts are installed. The local speed shop can tune it for me as long as I have the equipement. What really sucks is my laptop died a while back and I never replaced so I'm thinking about buying a cheap used one but haven't done it yet or would it be better to buy a scanner/editor that doesn't require a laptop. I'm really looking for something that will let me tune and edit SES codes, thanks for your help.

go see what the min requirements for HPTuners are and then get your laptop to fit (unless you want a "hotter" laptop).........
then either buy HPTuners yourself OR if you can look around local to you and see if anyone with the same year (or even some other year) LS_ based car/truck would like to buy in with you because for the base price you get two different vehical or year options and unlimited vehicals of each (ex: 98 F-body/2000 F-body or 98 F-body/2000 sliverado)......so really you and other 98 person, AND someone/or a bunch of people with some other year/car could go in together and tune eachothers cars.....
then just start having fun........
