Default Splicing 02 cables - bad idea?

I replaced my front 02 sensors about six months ago in my 99 F-body. On the passenger side, the new cable was about six inches too short which prevented a direct cable hookup to the PCM.

So I spliced in a section of new wire. The new wire I used was the same diameter and composition (a single copper wire strand as best as I can recall). I used the same connector from the new o2 sensor to plug into the PCM cable.

The cable splice was performed using cramp-style electric connectors (no solder)

Question: I've heard people here say that it is not a good idea to splice extra length into an 02 sensor cable; is that true?

Should I replace the spliced sensor with a longer stock 02 - like the rear o2s that come on a Vette?

I can't see why its a bad idea, I'm going to do that. But I would solder and use heat shrink tubing over the soldered connection.

You should be ok. Just make sure the connections won't come loose

I think (opinion here) that some of the splicing problems come with not using the proper splice wires (ie wrong gauge or different material, etc.). You SHOULD be OK if you splice and use the proper wires. I did it on my car and they worked fine for a few month until I got some vette o2 sensors.

OK sounds like good advice.

The splices were made at different sections in the cable so the splice connectors are not next to each other. I also taped up the cable with waterproof electrical tape. I was pretty careful how I did this since I heard some here had problems.
