Calling all Mustang owners
Ok buddy of mine has an 03 Cobra and was wondering if they make a laptop bassed tuning software for them like our hptuners or ls1edit. He wants a hand held programer and I talked him out of buying it till we got some info. Also his friend has an 01 Bullit same question. And he didnt want to pay much more than 500 dollars.

Already did no one has much of a clue on the ones I went to so I was hoping that some of our mustang guys here would know. Everyone on this site seems a bit more tech savy than on most boards

The Tweecer is suppose to be a real good one for Mustangs. A lot of guys at the tracks I have visited have this one. It's been around for quite some time.

You won't be able to get into tuning that car for under $500 to my knowledge, unless the tweeker supports it.
Unlike the GM world, the ford world, the handheld tuners CAN be good, the SCT tuners can be custom programmed using the Advantage software, sold to dealers and end users as the Pro Racers Package, unlike being stuck with the canned tunes that the GM world has on their handhelds.
The SCT datalogging handheld called the Xcalibrator2 retails for approx $46x price and the pro Racers Software retails for $299.

I've got a 95, running AEM with my turbo setup.... I believe AEM is working on something for the 99+ cars. From what I've seen the tweecer is alright as far as a piggyback, the options are limited for the mustangs because the computers suck in them.... You could also look into F.A.S.T or DFI, unfortunatlly for your friend a stand alone is prob the only way to get things the way you really want them. As far as the cost is concerned, your friend will prob be spending at least 500 on a dyno tune somewhere, and if he changes anything after that you know it'll prob have to be tuned again. Ultimitally it comes down to whether or not your friend plans on making lots of mods in the future.

While the Tweeker plugs into the J3 port, it is not a piggy back, it does reprogram the calibration portions of the computer, same as if it was flashed, where a piggyback unit modifies signals going into or out of the computer and the vehicle.
I don't know what you mean by the computers sucking, unless it is just a general lack of understanding of the factory control system works. Making 700+ rwhp on the stock 2003-4 cobra computer is not a problem at all, all you need is the injectors, and maf to handle it. Installing a stand alone in a 1999 or newer mustangs, requires everything from installing a full return style fuel system, as I don't know of a plug and play solution for that and an aftermarket stand alone. Since the 99+ mustang uses a serial data bus for the cluster, you would need a custom cluster as well. For any streetable 2003-4 cobra, there is 0% chance that I woudl pull the factory EEC for anything else. Even a racecar only application, I would still use the factory EEC, but may go to a conventional return style fuel system over 700rwhp.

Predator. My friend has a 03 and thats what he wants to get. It's handheld but is a very good package from what I hear. You just email them your mods and they email you back a tune. Another friend had one for his lightning and had it hooked up with a laptop as well don't know all the specifics.

Diablo does not offer any laptop tuning for the predator at this time, except if you are a dealer.

They've been talking about it for a Long Long time, with nothing available yet.

I don't know what a HPtuner has, but a Tweecer has access to pretty much every datapoint worth changing. Plus the built in datalogging of up to 16 user definable data points is an awesome tool. You can't clear computer codes with it yet like it I think you can with the SCT.
On a 87-95 5.0 Mustang the Tweecer is one of the best tuners IMHO. Once you get into the ODBII cars the tuning starts getting more complicated.
Used tweecers can be picked up for about $450 usually. There is a steap learning curve. SCT is a little more expensive but more dyno shops are doing custom tuning with it if you don't want to bother learning it. The SCT is also harder to move from car to car if you decide to sell it since it's locked in to your VIN and computer code.
Check out http://tweecer.oplnk.net for more details.

sct all the way. they have some good products coming out. look into them you will like what you find. tell him to stay away from diablo, not a very good product in my mind many broken promises like updates. never send away for a tune, go somewhere or do it yourself.
