Default ? about O2 sensors

Ok guys, when you get dyno tuned the tuner is tuning mostly for WOT runs right? I know that they tune for everyday driving with big cams and such but when you are running WOT does the car actually use the O2 sensors? If the car uses the O2 sensors during WOT runs what happens when your O2 sensors are bad? I'm talking about the O2 sensors in the headers now guys. Does the computer just keep the tune really rich when the O2 sensor goes bad to keep the motor safe? TIA for any input. I'm just ignorant on the tuning aspect of the LS1.
