Default SD mode and car runs fine

Im curious, Ive been skimming the pages here, and it seems that our cars are supposed to run like 'crap' in SD mode (you enable it when you unplug the MAF right?)
Well just messing around I was curious if my MAF is messed up (because my car runs lean in the heat) so I unplugged my MAF and took a drive. I see no difference at all, shouldnt it run different?

If you unplugged the MAF completely and haven't altered the computer, it should run like crap. It starts looking at the low octane timing table for starters...

Hmm very interesting, thats what I thought.
I just took the plug out of the MAF is that "completely" unplugged then?
I even romped on it once and it seemed perfectly fine. Maybe my MAF is damaged? The previous owner descreened it (he also ran 87 octane...) and I was thinking maybe he damaged it. Or would it be possible that he got some kind of tune that crapped up the MAF?

EDIT: Also should I be getting any lights turning on? Because there was nothing.

that just means your VE tables are fine. the idea is to get both VE tables and MAF table synced so well that you don't know which mode you're in. both work fine when tuned.

Yes, the SES light should come on. If not right away, it should have come on the second time you started the car w/o the MAF plugged in.
