Default HPtuner theoretical question

I am putting a 5.3 into an S10. I will be modifying the truck harness, and won't have the BCM. I have the truck PCM. Would it work to burn an F-body file into the PCM? I'm planning on buying HPtuner, but don't really want to buy it for a truck, because I don't think I'd probably ever use it on a truck again. I would have other uses if I could get an F-body vehicle type.

I dont think it will work. Even if the hardware is identical, HPT will be locked to one vehicle type or the other. But IIRC you can buy LS1 PCMs for ~150 anyway, why not just buy it.

In my year the truck and F-body PCMs were the
same hardware. You could get a used PCM from
an F-body. I haven't played with the "write entire"
function so don't know if it will jam an F-body OS
onto a truck PCM, or fight you (check the 'boards,
I vaguely recall someone wanting to push cross-
platform had some discussion going recently).

There are some guys around who have broad license
sets, who would probably do a mail order simple
truck->Fbody reflash for well less than the PCM cost.

However I'm not at all confident that an Fbody-
flashed PCM will be entirely happy attached to a
truck harness. And there's trucks, and trucks,
cable vs electric throttle and so on.

If you modify the truck harness to have only the essential items you need, but to correspond to an F-body harness (similar pinout), then you should be OK. I have flashed car bin to trucks and vice versa without a problem. But I also did not run the vehicle like that, you may encounter problems with the location of pinout from a truck harness to a passenger car (f-body) harness. Double check the pinout locations to both to be certain.

if you repin the harness to Fbody specs, run a mechanical throttlebody (and add the IAC plug, change the TPS plug, ect..) ect.. and make it the same as the fbody harness, then you can do that..

but if it was me, id just get HPtuners for that truck harness, and whatever year Fbody i wanted.

or

get another harness from a fbody.. its not like they're hard to come by.. it might even come with the PCM... then just flash up your engine tune.

It's a 2001 harness, so it has a cable on the throttle body.
