Engine Management Suggestions for blown LS1 Conversion

Default Engine Management Suggestions for blown LS1 Conversion

I'm putting a LS1 with a Magnuson blower (haven't gotten the SC yet) and T56 into a '72 Vette. I don't have a wiring harness or MAF sensor and the ECM that came with the engine is for an automatic.

I was wondering if it would be better for me to use an aftermarket engine management system like Calmap instead of tuning a stock ECM. I used Calmap in other project cars, but never with a LS1 and never with forced induction so not sure what issues might arrise.

Depending on what year the ECM is, it can be reflashed to any 99-02 F-body (for example), either auto or (what you seem to need) a manual setup. The only other issue would be that the ECM would need 2-BAR support for the blown application. You might want to look up HPTuners if do not already have a tuner solution lined up. As for harnesses, look up either Speartech or Speed Scene Wiring, both are sponsors on this site.

It's a ecu out of a '03 Vette. YOu think it would be better to buy a wiring harness, have the stock computer reflashed, and then have the car tuned? So I shouldn't bother with Calmap or any other aftermarket replacement?

The stock ECU is very capable, but it also depends on your goals for the car? All you would need is support for an '03 Vette (like HPTuners) and you are good to go ... apart from the needed wiring harness. Flash in a manual BIN file and start tuning that beast.
