i think abs and traction control work from bcs (or whatever the other computer box in there is called) so we don't have access to it

Ran into the same problem with my 02' Grand Am. At first 'SES' light, ABS, & Traction Control lights came on intermittantly - now finally they are on all the time. I have no traction control which is evident by the wheel spinning, but the ABS seems to still be working. At any rate, even if the ABS was out - you would still have normal style braking.

I tried scanning but go no codes. GM Tech said only way to check is with Tech II. There are (2) 'black boxes' in this circuit - (1) that controls the ABS and (1) that controls the Traction Control plus the wheel sensors of course.

Even if it is only a sensor, GM, in their infinite wisdom, built the front wheel sensors into the front outer bearing assembly. To replace the sensor - you have to replace the entire bearing assembly

I'll be taking my car over to a friend for quick scan to determine problem before tearing everything apart needlessly.

Tech II is the machine used at the dealer to scan your car for codes/problems.

I have an Innova OBD Scanner that works on GM/Ford/Chrysler from 1996 & up - it won't pull up any codes for the ABS

Tech 2's run 2000+ used and 2800+ new. If you by used make sure you have the proper software for you year and applications. Another Alternative is the EASE software. The basic GM is about 350 and modules for BCS TCS are available...about $800 total, as I recall.

EFILive can't read PID's, but it can read DTC's from ABS controller.
