Default Misfire & coil #5 problems

Hi Folks
I went to the track today and had a strange problem. My SES light was coming on and off - sometime it would stay on - had to clear it many times. I was setting P0300 engine misfire detected and P0355 Ignition Coil #5 Control Circuit. could hear popping in the exhaust. I left the track to go home because it looked like I was running on 7 cylinders. Going home doing 65mph - NO CODES, SES off. It has not shown up again - I tried to see if it would happen again - no way. What would it show up, bad coil? At the track, I checked the plug wire, electrical connection, everything looked good.
Thanks

Bill

Does it only do it after reaching the higher rpm's? On your way home did you simulate a 1/4 mile run? Bob

Hi
When I was about a 1/2 mile from home, I opened it up - 1st and 2nd gear only. no problem. One point (at the track) the car sat for 45 minutes between runs and the problem was there after starting up & waiting for the second run. I had to clear the codes about three times. After the run it was real bad, when I started to drive home, it cleared it self and and never came back.
Thanks
Bill
