Just out of curiosity, why did the 99-00 version come out before the 98 version?

Is it because more 99's were sold than 98's?

I'd think it'd be the other way around.

Jayson, sorry if I made it sound simple. From what I read it's different for the LS1's, but having some pcm tuning experience is still better than none.

The most likely reason for the 99-00 version first is simply: TRUCKS. More of this pcm on the road. 97, 98, 99-00, 01 is the grouping I believe, I havent heard about 02 yet. I wouldnt be suprised if 97 never comes out, probably not enough potential sales to make it profitable.

Ken made a remark on the lt1 edit list about what order he would be working in. Here is the post:

http://www.topica.com/lists/editor/r...?mid=902207808

Looks like it will be 99/00 -> 98 -> 01

Eric

98's have a completely different computer.

The guys that have used lt1 edit can probably answer this one (as can the shops using ls1 edit). If your interested in leaving the factory a/f curves but make necessary changes for large cam, converter, gear, code deletes etc, will this require a great deal of knowledge?? I would imagine these type of changes could be done by most people ??

Actually, unless Steve did something to prevent it. You should be able to save your old pcm code, and tweak it to your liking. If you mess it up, just reload Steve's programming!

Some tuners figured out ways to prevent this for LT1 Edit, I'm sure the same thing will happen for ls1 edit also.

If that's so, I don't care then. But with all the programming problems I've had with it (speak to Ed Wright about that), I'm wary to mess with it now that it's running like a gorilla.

Just as interested in LS1-Edit I am, I'm more interestd in retro-fitting a 99 PCM to a 98.

Seems Ls1 Edit won't be available for 98's for 6-9 months after the initial release, and quite honestly I've heard about Ls1 Edit for 3 years now, so I'm not holding my breath.

Even the tuners that try to make it so LT1 Edit is unusable on it, cant stop you from doing it. It wasnt too hard to change an Ed Wright program so that LT1 Edit could play with it <img src="images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

The $550 isn't that bad if you figure that's the cost of the initial re-programming from Ed Wright.

In 99-00 GM used the same ECM for the F-body, C5 and some trucks Vs. 97-98 C5 and 98 F-body. The guys working on it wanted to come out with a first version that would cover the most amount of vehicles.

The cam will require adjustments to fuel at idle and at WOT. Gears, tire size, fans etc is pretty straightforward.

Anyone who is on the fence about getting this software, join the LT1 Edit list now and start reading. It will probably be overwhelming at first but things start to make sense and you will see how they all work together. It is a very handy tool and is much better when you can adjust your files at any time and can try 50 programs in one day if you want <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0"> I am a very happy user of LT1 Edit and will consider getting it for my SS as well.

I can certainly see where we might need to add an LS1 Edit forum. Maybe let Autotap and MAFT stuff go in there too.

Jayson "The Man" Cohen <img src="images/icons/wink.gif" border="0"> , I wished I lived in Houston so I could be a part of MTI's learning experience on LS1 Edit. <img src="images/icons/cool.gif" border="0">

I'll hopefully have all the necessary bench programming hardware here soon so that I can begin making some changes for you guys on this board!

I knew they were different PCM's, I just wanted to know why the earlier car didn't get the aftermarket help first. But I understand the "economies of scale" thing.

Just make it a "Computer Diagnostics and Tuning" Forum or the reverse. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0"> There are also some really good tutorials:

http://para.noid.org/~lj - LJs site
http://www.slowcar.net/LT1Edit.htm - ChrisB's site

Both are a must read.

We should be getting the shop version of LS1Edit soon. Once I get a little time behind the wheel of it, I will let you know.
