The problem is that the dash is not showing the actual coolant temp. - GM adjusted the output to the dash so that the needle would not move around as the thermostat opened/closed. The reasoning was supposedly the new car owners were going to the dealership complaining that the coolant temp. was moving around. So, now if the temp is between (I think) around 185 to 220 it only stays at 210 on the dash. I am not sure about it but I think it is caused by the PCM sending the altered signal to the dash.

I would assume it isn't a PCM fix but a sending unit fix and not the scope of Edit.

I don't think that it is the sending unit that is the problem, the PCM needs accurate readings of the coolant temperature. I think that the sending unit is ok but the PCM uses the correct readings for its calculations and just sends different readings to the dash.

99 WS6 may have something there. In 98 the coolant temp signal comes from a sending unit, but in 99 they stopped using a sending unit and the gauge is now controlled by the PCM. The coolant temp info is taken from the PCM coolant sensor now, and sent to the gauge thru a serial data line. I'll take a look and see if I can decipher where they "do that" at.

Whoops, good to see you liked my 404 page <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0"> I just switched web hosts, and LT1Edit.htm got renamed to lt1edit.htm - damn case sensitive unix! anyway it should be fixed now.
As for the LT1 Edit list - try topica.com and register for it there.

I'm in the "Silver State Classic " race in Nevada next May . Do you think the '01's single user version will be out by then so I can raise my speed limiter ? I'd hate to have to buy a Hypertech to do that when I plan on getting the LS1edit when it comes out .
Oh and BTW ,hello everybody this is my first post here . Thought I'd come over from LS1.com and see what's up !

You can remove codes but not modify them. Injector size is also there. It will let you do everything you need to plus stuff you didn't even know you wanted to do(or have no clue what it is) <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0"> Most people won't use but 5% of the options.

Jayson, have you seen the Tuner beta for '98s yet? Ken Kelly indicated it was to be in a few tuner's hands for testing shortly. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

I would like to have one just to fix the stupid coolant gauge. I hope someone figures out where the code that turns it into an idiot light is...
Considering there's no sending unit--the gauge gets its information from the PCM, like was said above. The gauge and the PCM info (as seen in autotap) do NOT agree. Therefore: either the PCM is intentionally lying to the gauge, or the gauge is intentionally calibrated to be stupid. Has anyone figured out which yet?

For those interested, here is what Carputing sent me on the release of LS1 Edit:
Hi Dan,
The unlimited-PCM version of LS1 edit is complete, and shipping for
1999/2000 engines. The user documentation is not quite finished. The
97/98 version is in beta testing.
The PCM-locked version will be coming out at the very end of January.
It will be priced the same as the PCM-locked version of the 96/97 OBD-II
product.

This topic is definately a good one. I have a question relating to codes in the PCM and the new emissions regulations some of us will have to face. Does anyone happen to know what you can and can't do in the PCM according to the new rules that OBD-II vehicles will have to under go in EPA controlled areas? My information is that it checks the various PCM "run time" tests to see if the PCM is doing what it is supposed to. The example I was given was specific to 98-00 LS1 vehicles replacing the intake and going EGR-less with the LS6 intake. Supposably, the test would catch the EGR function disabled and flag the emission station to fail you. Anyone know for sure? Will "disabling" various codes to not set the SES do the same, or is this undetectable by the test?
