I just picked up the Scanmaster. Works for tuning like the auto-tap just does less but less than $300 shipped with Tybrne's 10% off sale. And i have a friend with a-tap. Olything i will need it for is maby to look up misfires. I might change when i get more serious into it. I dont have a laptop either.......
Plus i can stay plugged in all the time no need to hook it up and check something. And can be mounted in your line of sight...just my$.02

Depends on what you want to do. The Scanmaster is great for monitoring things at the track during a run. For general pupose diagnotics/analysis Autotap (or other popular scantools like Ease) is probably more appropriate. The right tool for the job applies here.
