The LS1_Edit cable is a custom design by Carputing (Dave designed it). It is incompatible with any other software out there. It is only useable with LS1_Edit.
LT1_Edit for OBDII uses the same hardware, but the firmware in the cable is different.

thanks, you sound like you are pretty knowledgeable about the edit stuff, maybe you can answer this, if i get edit with 1 or 2 other people (to bring the price down) does it come with one cable or one for each of us? can other cables be ordered alone? Just dont wanna have to switch that one cable around between 3 of us...

Yah, I know a thing or two about it. <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">
If you were to buy a 3-user license (yourself and two friends), it would include 1 cable, with the cable itself allowing 3 different VIN's to be programmed. The way it works is that when you run their programming software and actually go to program the vehicle, and if the vehicle has never been programmed by that particular cable before, it will ask you if you REALLY want to program it. You select yes, the VIN is burned in to the memory of the cable.
Cables with 1-VIN are $550 each. Software is free. <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> (well, not really, but that's essentially how it works <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0"> ). There is no multi-cable option.

I think the ATAP software also does a check for THEIR cable. You can download the software from their website...so they dont want you going out and building your own...
Although I am sure Camaroholic could do that <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">
