Default How are you guys measuring RPM with A-tap?

I’ve been using a real time graph to check my shift points ever since I’ve had a-tap. It seems slow though, and I’m wondering if I’m actually shifting as low as it’s showing or if it’s slow enough to be off by a couple hundred rpm?

When MTI set up my ‘puter they set the shift points for me. They set the limiter at 6600 and said that they would go as high as they could with the shift points without chancing rev limiter contact. Problem is, I seem to be shifting at about 6100/6200 and I think that’s too low for a B1 cam/stock heads combo. I’ve been planning on getting those raised to about 6300/6400, but maybe I’m already shifting there and a-tap is just too slow to catch it in real time graphing?

I’m using the windows version. What do you guys do to get the most accurate RPM readings possibile, and how do you set it up. Thanks. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

Use the DOS based version, it seems to work better for me. Also, the more items you are monitoring on the screen, the less data points it will record. Less items = faster sampling rate.

So, set the AutoTap runs up to a bare minimum, maybe just Throttle position and RPM.

Also the PCM is a bit slow getting updated values to the tach, thus tach can lag 200 - 300 RPMs behind the PCM at the high end.

I have to set my shift light at the drags 200 RPMs lower then rev limiter else when light come on, PCM is already over the rev limiter setting.
