Interesting Idea from Miata Board, Harlan?
We know the Pontiac tachs are slower for some reason and the Camaro tach isn't even that accurate.
I saw this on the Miata board a week ago and thought I'd post it to see if something like this was doable.

Interesting idea, but I don't know enough about the f-body tach electronics to say if it would make a difference. I usually just install shift lights...

I took a look at the IP when i had it apart for the white face install.
The tach didn't appear to be analog in the least. So the "change the filter cap" approach is out.
Just don't think it's that simple. So, just buy a shiftlight instead
seriously though, doesn't appear to be feasible for us

Re: Interesting Idea from Miata Board, Harlan?
It might be feasible on 97 and 98 cars as the drive is analog and there are a few capacitors floating around the driver chip. Be careful though, some of the meters need all of that damping and some of them don't. I've experimented with driving the speedo and tach from my own electronics and some of the meters can easily keep up with the engine and others just swing wildly back and forth with that little damping.

My buddy inturned at Milfred, and he checked into this "lazy tach" syndrome.
For some reason, GM programmed it into the PCM. It can be changed using LS1 Edit, or similar methods.
Also, the offset in the tach reading changes (it gets worse) as you go up the RPM range.
My $.02
