Any hiccups with LS1-Edit and Windows 2000?
I would like a short response from those that are using Windows 2000 and are having no major problems.
I try to read the PCM and it loses connection so I don't dare try to program with it. I am not sure if it is the monitors running in the background of Windows that is causing it or what but it's pissin me off. I also have trouble with ATAP on that computer. Everything works fine but I can't pull codes. I might just put WIN98 on it.
Also, make sure all screen savers are disabled, all anti-virus software is disabled, and POS programs like FindFast are disabled - these can start up randomly (like when programming) and hose up communications. It's not as serious with LS1's as it is with LT1's, but still, you should be careful.
And ALWAYS make sure your battery in the laptop is good, or use an inverter based on the car's battery (that's what I do).

My recommendation is, though, that you purchase your USB to RS232 adapter locally, so that if it doesn't work, you can return it easily and try a different one. Since USB is dependent upon both hardware and drivers, one manufacturer's converter may not work while another one's might.

BTW, I'm running XP on a Dell Inspiron 2600, 1.04 gig, with the above mentioned Belkin converter... so far, so good.
I had that happen to me on my first read. Since it took about 15 minues, and I was on battery, the laptop went into standby with 92% of the PCM read. I went into the power control panel and made a custom power scheme for LS1-Edit that basically turns off all power management while I'm reading or flashing.
Good luck!
That Belkin adapter is the only one I could get to work properly with my Toshiba.
