'lil help with edit problem please ...long
I have a 98 M6 Z28.
A couple friends (with previous ls1 edit experience) and I reprogrammed my PCM tonite. Things didn't go very well. I'm hoping for a little assistance determining what went wrong and if I toasted my PCM.
We read, then edited my program. We only changed parameters for CAGS, fans and speed limiter since my car is basically stock. (free ram air and a cat back)
We did a read, then flashed the PCM. After the programming, I tried to start the car and the battery was weak. It cranked over a couple times and didn't start, then failed to crank any more.
I had a weak battery and didn't realize it before hand.
We replaced the battery with a new one and it wouldn't start. We reverted back to the original program, same thing.
We plugged in an autotap and got a code of P0601 PCM/VCM Memory. We figured this was not a good sign I suspect I'll be buying a PCM but figured I would ask before doing so.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks
My stock battery is approaching 3 years old. I was looking at a light weight replacement but I think I'm going to go the other way and get higher power unit. I don't want to have to worry about problems doing loads at the track, running fans a little in the staging lanes, etc.
I think I've seen used C5 PCMs going for $200-250. Dont know about new ones. The 97-98 may be a little more since there are fewer of them.

If you are in a garage and doing this, why not use a battery tender to make sure your battery doesn't die. It wouldn't hurt and save you from purchasing a new PCM. By the way, how much is it for a PCM for a C5.

One of the first warnings in the instructions...

you can try this some times it works i have done it at work a few times, also i have never locked up a computor with the charger on the battery.
try disonnecting positive cable from battery and short the cable across the negative cable at the battery some times this unlocks the computor.

i know it says not to leave one connected, but we have been doing this for years when working on equipment with no probs yet
