im not sure why you would want them all on all the time, its DOD, when the car sees you need the power it gives it to you. AFAIK it cuts down cyls at steady cruise to save gas. so why would you want to use them if you dont need them?

My step-fathers Dodge Magnum has DOD + cat back exhaust. It saves on gas, but when you are on the hiway, just before cruising speed, it has a nice American V8 rumble, then switches to sounding like a Honda.

Does it alternate which 4 cylanders get used, or is the the same 4 all the time?
In which case surely those 4 are going to get heavily used and wear out faster than the whole engine would if it didnt have DOD?
Maybe just after the 3 year 100,000 warranty?

i dont see why they would get worn more. plus it would have to fire the same 4 cyls i would think to keep the engine balanced. only thing not going on is fuel and spark i assume, all the parts still move so wear and tear is no different. just the piston tops not getting as hot in some cyls

DOD has a collapsable lifters, controlled by oil pressure which is commanded by the VCM. Makes cam changes sound interesting!

the cylinders that are deactivated are fixed, this reduces the cost of the special valve train and the PCM as only half of the cylinders need the DOD hardware and the PCM only needs 4 outputs instead of 8.

i don't know what the wear implications are but one would assume that the heat gradients and changed mechanical loads are within design tolerances.

the LS2 pcm has a DOD disable setting that disables DOD completely.

We haven't looked at the 06 Monte so i can't comment on it specifically.
