Default Best fuel - 89, 92, 93 octane?

What fuel is best to use?

Someone on this board said the most power and best fuel economy is obtained from using the lowest octane fuel that will not result in detonation (pinging).

My car has high compression heads (11.5 to 1), mild cam and an upgraded valve train. It will run on 89 without pinging but I always use 93.

Any thoughts?

Well the point of a higher octane fuel is so that you can run more timing, higher boost, or more N2O...now any engine can probably "run" on 89 octane or whatever but the point is that you want to be able to get the most out of the engine so in order to introduce more timing then you have to give it a fuel that won't combust off of the pressure of the engine...This is where tuning comes into play...

its all on how the car is set up, if it cannot properly burn the higher octanes, which means there is no need for it, then you wont make any more power. IMO that just deals with the high grades of racing gas, not the piddly ol gas we run. run 93.

Just run 93.

When I tune people for optimal timing and afr I tell them they can only run 91-93.
