Default Do 6spd cars utilize torque management?

If so, what are the ramifications if it is removed?

Is this only for LS1? Or does the 3.8 V6 also have it? 96-02?

I don't know about other models but the 6spd C5 corvette does utilize torque management, for active handling features and protection of the torque tube and other parts. It retards the timing until the torque falls within paramters, with my car its about (or was) 350lbs.

You can see the timing retard this if you scan your car while the delivered torque is peaked.

The good part about removing it or setting the Maxtq value at 999, is that timing will not retard, but the risk is that increased torque will put a greater strain on the rest of those GM parts.

The 6-speeds get the 'abusive manuvers' clause of the TM description. Traction control cars effectivly use it as well to cut timing. Obviously, since the PCM isn't doing the shifting that part of the TM 'system' doesn't come into play.
The V6 cars? Hmmmm....don't know since it's a PCM item. I would imagine they have something similar, but less intrusive since the power is much less. If I think of it tonight, I'll check the manuals and see if I can find a reference to it or not.

Thanks,

So, cars with active handling use these tables?

I can verify some of this first hand.

My timing is essentially the inverse of my torque curve. I start at 30 degrees at 2500 rpm and drop off timing to 24 degrees at 3300 rpm and stay at 24 till 5500 rpm while my torque stayed a consistent 360-365. When my torque starting to drop at 5500, my timing started to recover from 24 degrees back up to 30 by 6200.

Joe Prince is planning on retuning my car to pull out the 'abuse mode/TM' and we will see what it yeilds.
