I posted this in the truck forum also, but I figured I would give it a shot here too.
Ok some of you know I am planning a stoker out of my old motor. When I do this, I am going to put in another PCM. Which one should I go with saying the motor will be about 380+/- ci. 4.8/5.3/5.7/6.0 I am leaning toward a 5.7, because you can get them to rev higher with a HPPIII. The truck HPPIII will only go to 6200. That is just one reason, there are to many to list.

Also I can get a PCM for under $200 VS LS1Edit will run me an arm and a leg. I haven't heard about much luck getting T/M out with LS1Edit on the trucks.

Just for info. I rode in a 99 with stock programming and it shifted way better than my 01 does. I've heard the the TM got increased after 99. I'm thinking about flashing my extra pcm with a 99 program and using ls1edit.

I'm with Chris. You're being shortsighted.
You'll want edit to tune the motor. I seriously doubt that you'll add cubes & a cam (and probably a MAF and injectors) and want stock tuning. Plus you'll be able to adjust part throttle shift points, converter locking etc.
Used HHP3 + MAFT is $300 - $350. For $200 more you can have edit and with a built motor you should have it.
