Default Dumb, but important question

I am getting ready to buy hptuners software and will be doing some mail order tunes for friends. How do I apply power to the PCM for the tune? Do I need to get a used wiring harness and hook it to a battery, or do I need to swap it out with my car for power? This is probably something simple but my mind is taking a crap at the moment.

Please help. Let me know if my questions are not clear enough.

spearco sells harnesses but you also have to get a power supply with it.

You can make your own pretty simple, but you have to go to the junk yard to get the parts.

How about the power supply, what amperage needed to run the ECM?
Anyone know a good reasonably priced one?
