Default A4 Performance Mode

I would like to discuse the A4's performance mode.

I see in Edit there are tables for performance shift speed ... performance TCC ... and performance shift time.

The biggest mystery to to me right know is; how does the PCM togle into these performance tables?

It doesn't.

These tables hark back to a time when you could hit a button and make your tranny's performance more aggressive.

I have not analyzed the tables, but I am told you can use them as an example of how to retune your normal tables for a more aggressive performance profile.

The LT1 Firebirds had the performance function on the A4s, my car has it. All it basically does is alter the part throttle behavior, as it will hold the rpms higher at part throttle, and it will downshift with less throttle pressure. At WOT, the tranny shifts at the same point (100rpm before the rev limiter).

Camaro LT1s with the A4 are always in performance mode. I like mine since I prefer to leave it in normal mode, and have it shift at lower rpms when I'm driving in traffic. Saves on fuel.

Thanks for the info: I was hopeing there might be an input to the PCM that could be riged up. My wife just picked up a Grand Prix GTP and it has a button on the gear stick that displays "Performance Shift" when pushed. I thought there might be some similarity with the two PCMs.

Thanks Ron
