questions about IAT sensor

questions about IAT sensor i have a truck with a whipple, the IAT sensor seems to be built into the MAF, the MAF is before the whipple. because fo this i am not geting acurate intake air temp readings. any idea how hard it would be to actualy measure the intake air temp in the intake?
how many wires do you guys have going to your MAF? i have 4 if you only have 3 then i bet the extra is for the IAT, seems like i could get a sensor like i think you guys have and put it in the intake and wire it up. the reason i ask is i am going to try and get my intake air temp down, maybe some water injection or fab up an intercooler and i would like to see my results and actualy tune for the corect IAT.
