Coolant light coming on?

Coolant light coming on? My coolant light comes on when I start up but goes off after being driven.My scanner shows no codes.Should I replace the coolant sensor?My coolant level shows it's full.If I need to replace the sensor where is it?

Re: Coolant light coming on? Shouldn't need to replace it. This happens a lot in our cars. Take the sensor off- the sensor is just below the rad hose on the passenger side - it is held on by a snap ring and the sensor wire - clean it good with 409 or something similar - wash it out good, put in back on. I have to do mine at least once a yea.

Re: Coolant light coming on? Are you guys using the new orange type coolant, or have you reverted to the blue/green antifreeze. I ask because I am using the new stuff and the car is a 1998, and it has never had any probs with the cooling light, guage or anywhere else. The orange antifreeze is said to be good for up to five years, but I would change at the three year mark to be safe... or sooner if you want. Costs more, but my car is running very cool even with these hot hot days we are seeing here in Va...
Re: Coolant light coming on? I use the standard GM issued crap. Drexcool or something like that. Is this 'new' organe stuff actually new or is it Drexcool in sheep's clothing ??

Re: Coolant light coming on? Only use GM approved Dexcool. It's "red" because they add dye to it to distinguish it from the older silicate containing coolants. Just change it more often than the BS 100k mile interval they advise.
