Default Tough PCM Question

OK, has anyone figured this out yet. If something or somebody causes the PCM to switch from the high to the low octane tables, how can you switch it back without refilling the tank with 20% or more gas? Seems like there should be a fuse that you could pull somewhere.

I have not seen any way to do this yet. BUt if you have LS1edit, you can set the two tables up with the same values. That way if it goes into low octane mode it is not detrimental.

wouldn't resetting the PCM take care of it? Pull hte PCM IGN and PCM BAT fuses...

Not detrimental??? If bad gas or something causes it to go to the low octane table and it is the same, what happens when KR gets maxed out? Yes, pinging and detonation. No thanks, I'll leave the low octane table at it's present settings as a safeguard. As I've said before, I think making the low table the same as the high is putting a 'band-aid' on the problem instead of fixing it. Just my $0.02 worth.

If you don't wan't to disable the low octane table then why would you want to reset it if you don't address the fuel quallity issue. If you just rest it, then aren't "YOU" bypassing the low octane table without addressing the problem. Seems kind of silly to reset it if your not sure why. What you want to do is in essence disabling low octane table if you don't adress the problem "SPARK KNOCK"

There are other things that can cause knock retard besides fuel quality. Duh!!! Ever heard of "false knock"? If I make a change to try to fix the problem, I would like to start in the high table to see if the change keeps the PCM from going to the low table. Rather than burning off 4+ gallons of gas and refueling, it would be nice to check the change immediately.

Good Point.. however, the only way to get back to the hi-octane table is either the PCM reset or refill the tank..

However, bear in mind that if you do the reset method, you'll have to go for a lengthy drive anyway to do the relearn or your A/F trims may be wrong, which affects timing as well...

No good answers here.. but what you could do is start the process with a near empty tank.. then add 5 gallons.. make changes.. add 5 gallons, etc.. That way you could at least get 2 or 3 "resets" back to the hi-octane table with a minimum of hassle...
