O2 sensor is going up and down up and down, is it bad?
O2 sensor is going up and down up and down, is it bad? The driver's side O2 sensor on a friends 00 SS Camaro is going up and down and looks like a heart rythem beat on my screen. The passenger side is smooth as silk. I am guessing the drivers side is bad. Why hasn't it set a code?

Re: O2 sensor is going up and down up and down, is it bad? Funny, i just replaced an O2 today on an SC430 because it WASNT fluctuating. Proper operation of an O2 sensor should show the voltage constantly going from 0 to 1 volt, crossing the .5v line. This shows how the car goes from rich to lean, then back and forth. It is totally normal. If you have a flat lined O2.. Its bad. Replace it.. But make sure you arent testing the rear o2 behind the cat.. that one SHOULD be flat lined.. this O2 is there to tell the computer if the cats are doing their job.. hence the need for O2 sims when removing cats. Hope that helps...

Get this, an 02 Z28 does the same exact thing! I am going to do mine tomorrow.
It only jumps back and forth at part throttle conditions.

The flat lined one was infact the rear sensor. I looked, looked, and looked at it and I was seeing OS21 when it was OS12. I guess I should stop have dilussions.
