Default finally got edit able to use my ed wright program

long story short

i have ed wright tuning (locked pcm)

i emailed him and asked for my stock program back
he sent me it back no problems (for free)

took the stock file and tried to edit it .. no dice...

emailed ken and ended up emailing him the file ed sent me.. he said it was in some other format, and ken fixed it for me (for free) and sent it back to me.

i edited it sucessfully and uploaded it to my car today.

bottom line, you dont have to have your car reflashed by the dealer OR have to buy a new pcm.. just get your stock file back and get it in the right format and you are home free.

you can read the program off of the car, just not 'view it'.. or 'edit it'
you can reflash directly over the fastchips locked tuning with no problems

big thanks to ed wright and ken kelly

MIGHTYMOUSE,
My Ed Wright program is locked too. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
What format do I need to ask Ed for, to send my stock program back to me ? Or do I need to forward this to Ken, for his 'fix' to work with edit?

Thanks,
Dave

OK, answer me this:

Does all this mean you can download Ed's code and store it somewhere, then upload your stock code and tweak it? And, at any given time, one could swap between your modified code and Ed's code?

Only difference being you couldn't modify Ed's code, right?

That's much easier than the PCM swap game!

2000: just ask him for a stock flash file for your vin number. then forward it to ken. since they do not tune with the same software, neither has the other ones format.

jim:
i have not and will not be trying to re upload eds code.. i do know that it did save, but it is definitely not readable.. i would be scared it would crash my pcm if i tried to re upload it, but i guess there is a possibility.

Great information! Now we know that everyone doesn't have to relfash their PCM because a tuner locked them out. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Have any of you tried to edit Ed's code?

The reason I asked I called Ed to find out if my PCM was locked before I bought LS1 Edit. He said he locks all of his programs. After I decided to get Edit I just assumed I'd have to reflash. One day I thought I'd just try it out so I hooked up to the car and downloaded Ed's program. I then opened Ed's program in edit and made changes to it. I haven't tried to reload it yet but I'm going to soon.

On a side note. When I opened Ed's program I was pi <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> ed. Almost nothing was changed from the original. HPP could have changed the things he did.
I just found out today though that Edit doesn't show you all the tables at least not yet so he may have made changes elswhere that I can't see.

i tried to edit his program, i dl'd it off my computer and that was fine, but when i tried to view it in edit, no dice, it said its locked possibly from a vendor... tomorrow though im going to try to re upload it since this stock file he sent me is corrupted or something, its giving me a lot of trouble.
