Need help with open loop off idle/part throttle tuning
I'm going to be installing my new 382cid solid roller engine early next
week. This is a pretty high compression, big cammed, ragged edge motor.
Due to the compression ratio, I am going to run leaded race fuel in the car.
I have already set up LS1Edit to permanently keep the car in open loop, and
there will no O2 sensors on the car whatsoever. I have already driven the
car this way a little, as I had a very similar motor in the car for 1 day
before a defective wristpin broke and caused me to go back in the "disabled
list."
The car idled OK (given the cam specs), and had great throttle response
above 3000rpm. Off idle/part throttle to around 3000rpm was very lacking in
the driveability department, though. I'm 99% sure the car was lean in this
area, hence the bucking/surging/missing. I had/still have SVO 42# (yes, I
know they're overkill) injectors and the appropriate scaling in LS1Edit
already, and varied the fuel pressure anywhere from 60psi down to 35psi (big
externally regulated stand alone fuel system on the car), and the problem
was still there, further leading me to point the finger at a lean condition.
Now on to the questions... What would be the best way to richen the car up
at idle, and part throttle operation given my open-loop only status? I
presume that I can change the injector scaling around some, fiddle with the
VE table, or alter the MAF table. I don't expect to have the driveability
of a stocker, but it does need to be somewhat driveable. I'm going to
handle WOT tuning first (via wideband on a DynoJet), but I would like to
make a couple of small changes so that the car may be a bit more driveable
when I first start it up and start to tweak on everything.
Thanks in advance for any kind of ideas
