disconnecting the battery just resets the PCM... doesn't delete the code... only way to delete a code is w/a tuner package or w/a mail order...

I would get the car scanned first (autozone does it free) to see what the exact code is... to make sure it's a code that can be shut off (vs something like a front O2 sensor which would indicate a real problem you should fix)

replace the O2's and if it stops throwing the code that was the problem. OR you can heat the O2 sensor with a torch and let it cool all while monitoring its activity with efi live or whatever else.

I'd get the code(s) read to tell what's going on - might be something else besides an 02, or you'll know if it's just one or both. If you just want to reset the PCM without disconnecting the battery:

Turn key on, don't start car, pull PCM BATT and PCM IGN fuses in engine compartment, wait 5-10 min, turn ignition off, replace fuses. Idle will be grumpy until it relearns. Some codes throw the light immediately, some only after a few starts.

Get AZ to read/clear it for you and post the code.

Default SES Reset

From another post I had printed out some time ago. I can't vouch for it.

How to reset the SES (Service Engine Soon) light without a computer diagnostic tool.

-insert your key and leave in the on position.
-pop the hood and pull the pcm batt fuse (10 amp, red, I think).
-wait 5-10 minutes.
-put the fuse back in - you will hear a relay click.
-turn key to off position, and wait a couple of seconds.
-start your engine.
-the light will be cleared, and if done this way you won't have to relearn your fuel trims or idle.

I've (he's) done it this way about 10 times (don't ask) and it works every time.

Bank 2, Sensor 2 is the rear 02 on the passenger side. Is the code P0430? Make sure it's tightened down/not leaking/no exhaust leak. If it is only P0430 you can swap the rear 02's from side to side, clear it, then if the code changes to P0420 (drivers side) then it's the sensor, if it stays the same probably a bad passenger side cat. Hope this helps...P0430 is just a guess...if it's a different code could be something different.

I was thinking about getting one of those cheap code reader and reset tools. I've seen some on ebay and Harbor Freight for like $50. Not exactly sure on how much feedback these have gotten though. One of the better looking ones that I've seen is http://www.diydiagnostics.com/ Trying to get a little more info from the seller right now though.

if you just want to clear codes... then the battery discon or PCM fuse method is the best route..... if you want to scan codes... go to autozone... it's free

If you want to do more than scan/clear codes... then you have to spend money .....

The cheapie ones from harbour freight and such are junk... look at it this way... how many times do you set an SES??? seriously I mean????

If you need to keep checking your SES light.. then you have a problem and should fix it rather than just clear it (which will only last a few driving cycles and won't let you pass emissions testing)

I didn't read much on that DIY diagnostic... but I'd bet dollars to donuts (where the donut is worth 1 dollar ) that it ONLY scans the basic ODBII prameters.....

ok.. n/m I actually did read into that POS ... tell ya what... for 1 dollar plus shipping, i'll clear the SES light for you and you don't even need to ship it to me if you're going to spend 50 bux to read it... then may as well go to the 100 dollar models (such as proscan ---->>>) that can read/clear and scan basic OBDII params ....

That's one thing that is neat about the C5, you can check your codes on the trip computer, as well as clear any check engine lights too.

man that would be nice

So is there any way to have codes cleared from No Cats to pass a NC emission other than hptuners or something like that?
Would a predator or VHP Tuner work?
