Your car is all stock? What mods do you have?
If your just looking for more power, you may get say 20hp on a stock car, no way to tell really. the more mods you do, the more beneficial a tune will be. I'd wait till you have at least long tubes or something that more greatly alters the airflow of the engine, especially if you're planning on paying to have a tune done.

Are you planning on internal mods, or just bolt ons?
If you have your own tuning tools, do it as often as you want, but when it's $500 a pop most would like to optimize their results by waiting till after the "bigger" mods.
I'd wait till after some headers at least.

On a stock car all u can do is bump time to 28 deg and lean the Air/fuel ratio some. U can get more power from a lid. If u get long tube heads and other bolt ons then it is time for a tune. Where do live. If u are not far i can do a 2002 f-body.
