Default Advance Timing

What is the recommend way to advance timing?

1. should i bump the .52-1.00 thru 4000-5200rpms timing up to 28? or something else

or
2. bump the whole table up 5

or something different?

when i do this i want to make sure im getting no or little KR and after i do it, there shouldnt be any or little still, correct?
