Default why is my timing in the teens?

going by o2's the car is lean everywhere, avg. is .85
--0 kr at all rpm's at any "tps", but when i reach 4250 rpm's at any "tps"(wot or not)...it goes straight from 0 kr to 4 kr, nothing in between.
--and at 4250 and 4 kr the timing goes as low as 13*, and avg 15*.
--put 100+ octane in and still the same results.
--can 4 kr cause this much timing retard?
--oh yes, when i am "wot" my ltft's are a constant 0. every where else besides "wot" its a constant -0.8.
thanks for any help,
ben

isnt it false knock if you out in racing fuel and its still showing up?? Maybe I have it backwards..

after my cam went in my timing is around 21-22 with 0 KR at WOT.. just a tad bit down low around 2k... only showing up as like .8 or so(false probably)

before cam my timing was 27 all the time...

wish i could help

Have you gotten any codes relating to the knock sensor circuit? I think I remember reading somewhere that if there is something wrong with the circuit, it will automatically pull 4*.

yep, i cannot remeber the number on the code but it did give a code of some sort on the # 1 knock sensor. i think i have a sensor laying around. i will try it.
thanks,
ben

I forgot to add, when my friend had a bad rear sensor, it defaulted straight to 4* when he'd get on it. Hope it's your fix.

Ok, what happened is the KR kicked you down to the low octane(or bad gas) timing table.
The timing on this table is much lower than the high octane table. When you fill the car up with 5 or more gallons of gas, you are bumped back up to the high octane table, but as soon as you get the KR, you will be bumped down.
The fix is to use LS1Edit to make the tables have the same values.

I had (have) pretty well the same situation as you...getting up to 4* KR, only it does come on gradual and not all at once. Have tried all the usual stuff too (race gas, check for loose exhaust/components) and still there. On Atap I was too getting timing in the teens/low 20's. I do have a MAFT though so I'm not running lean. My fix was to install HPP3 with RFG tuning - my timing (even with the up to 4* KR) is now back averaging the high 20's, even hitting 30.5 when KR is not present. No pinging and 02's around .890 - .910

There is a service bulletin for water intrusion causing damage to knock sensors, this affects guys who wash under there hoods mostly, but r+r sensor along with building RTV dam around new sensor is the fix. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

thanks for all the help. i have taken the intake off and immediatly seen that both the wires leading to the kr sensors were pinched and i could see the bare wire exposed through the insulation.....replaced the wires with new and ground down supports(whatever they are) under the ls6 intake, for more clearance. logged 7 autotaps and straight 0's on the kr until my 7th log and it showed its ugly head twice. a 1.8 and a 3.0 and that was all.
i am getting a code now on the #1 kr sensor so i am going to remove the intake and put in another sensor......IS #1 KR SENSOR THE ONE CLOSE TO THE RADIATOR OR THE FIREWALL????
thanks again,
ben

oh yea, by the way my timing jumped up from a low of 13* to a low of 19* after the wire swap. and avg of 15* to 21.5*..........so i am happy with that gain. i have the maft and timing tuner sitting right here beside me so hopefully when i fatten the lean mixture up and add a couple of deg with the tt i will see some high 20's in timing.

ok mine just did something weird

I went to the track and logged my run... no KR and my timing went from 21 back up to 26 lol

go figure <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

maybe when i put gas back in it reset it like mentioned above. I also got a little KR doing my burnout, but no codes or anything..

maybe mines fixed now.. hopefully <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> havent logged anything since last friday
