What are some general rules in regard to timing and changes in hp? If you program higher timing advance across the entire band ranging from 27 to 31 at the rev limit with LS1 edit without any KR, is it safe to say that you will increase the hp across the board also? Before edit I was ranging from 23 to 28 max. Now it is pretty flat from 4500 rpm at 27 deg to 6500 at 31 deg. BTW, my A/F is running about 13.4.
Does higher timing advance without detonation effect the motor in any negative ways?
Need some expertise here...TIA

I run about 32deg at WOT with no retard. I had a hug increase in power. We just did my buddies 02 truck and the stock timing was very conservative. About 18deg at WOT, with a 5.3L. HPP bumped it up about 23deg and we increased it to 30 deg with edit. After tuning and harding the shifts up we dropped 7 thenths in the quarter with his truck. 15.8 to 15.12. Mine has been running at 32 deg for a while now with no problems. I have a 94 truck with LS1.

Running more timing wot without knock is a good situation because spark occurs at a point of less cylinder pressure which allows it to happen easier. Also engine runs cooler like this because combustion starts sooner and there is more time for heat to transfer to cooling system and cooler running exhaust temps which helps keep underhood temps down. Just FYI. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

Thanks all for the input. I now feel pretty good about the tuning. I am going to richen up a bit to safeguard myself with the increased timing.
Good Hunting.
